
4/24/2007 6:43:08 PM Tuesday after the closing bell, Aflac, Inc. (AFL) reported its first quarter 2007 results that revealed an 11% increase in net earnings while total revenues grew 5.4%. Meanwhile, operating earnings rose 12% due to the weaker yen/dollar exchange rate.
Excluding the weaker yen impact, operating earnings increased 15.3% on a per share basis. Operating earnings per share also topped estimates by three cents.
Aflac U.S. performed very well in the quarter with 10.7% growth in total revenues and 10.9% rise in premium income. However, Aflac Japan reported only 5.7% increase in total revenues and premium income in yen increased 4.9%.
