Yahoo Rejects Microsoft Bid Again

advertisement

SAN FRANCISCO — Yahoo on Monday reiterated its rejection of a takeover offer from Microsoft, again calling it too low.

What's this?
Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

"Our board's view of your proposal has not changed," Yahoo said in a statement. "We continue to believe that your proposal is not in the best interests of Yahoo and our stockholders. Contrary to statements in your letter, stockholders representing a significant portion of our outstanding shares have indicated to us that your proposal substantially undervalues Yahoo. Furthermore, as a result of the decrease in your own stock price, the value of your proposal today is significantly lower than it was when you made your initial proposal."

A hostile takeover would be even worse for them, imho.

I don't know much about the issue, but that is likely true.

Damn Microsoft really wants Yahoo. I wonder how much SoftBank is involved in all of this?

Yes. Microsoft is champing at the bit.

I am not sure about the softbank issue, but good question.

I know that SoftBank split their company into two parts Yahoo and SoftBank but as far as I understand SoftBank stills owns Yahoo...or am I wrong

ok I looked it up. The same guy who created Yahoo also created Softbank. Softbank inc. own 41 percent of Yahoo Japan Corp. Softbank is a huge comapny! Yahoo is only one part of SoftBank, but Yahoo is in fact SoftBank`s baby. So far SoftBank does not want Yahoo sold to Microsoft and it looks like many inside of SoftBank do not want to give in to the bid from Microsoft. Japan is one of the few places in the world in which Yahoo has more daily traffic than Google Inc.

SoftBank may still sell but it will be a hard sell for sure.

Stockholders don't want Yahoo! to sell (true) but stockholders also like money. Microsoft has a lot of money. But how much will they lose as their reputation as the evil empire is enforced by a hostile takeover?

Good point.

Sometimes, though, I think some people revel in Microsoft's reputation as the "evil empire." :-)
