The social network Facebook has reached an agreement with 49 state attorneys general to institute a broad set of principles intended to protect young users from online predators and inappropriate material.
MySpace announced a similar settlement with state officials in January and joined a new Internet safety technical task force to develop age and identity verification tools for social networking sites. Facebook will now join that task force as well.
being an old fart, 53, i can't help but laugh. the good folks who bring us these sort of things NEVER figured kids would behave themselves on them, and that degenerate adults would not EVER take advantage of them? man, if something like this had existed during the 60's and 70's, can you imagine the result?
maybe i'm too jaded or something, or too cynical...but, to put i-face, or face-pod, or whatever its called, in the hands of teens, and with access to every pervert on the planet, is simply stupid, if not a cold, calculated product of corporate greed in action. then, i am can be wrong...

Common sense stuff is what this is. Lord knows enough of the 7th graders are on MySpace too much of the time and they need to be protected from themselves. The stuff they'd post otherwise is absolutely inappropriate, and in one case was taken down lest the children involved end up in court. Sad.
