ALBANY - John Lennon's killer Tuesday was denied parole for a fifth time.
In turning down Mark David Chapman's request to be let go, a two-member Parole Board panel cited the predmeditated nature of his killing of the legendary former Beatle on Dec. 8, 1980.
The panel noted Chapman's clean prison record since 1994 and his "positive institutional adjustment," but said it was not enough to override the fact he carried out Lennon's murder "with an essentially clear mind."
Chapman, who is serving a 20-years to life sentence in Attica Correctional Facility, is next eligible for release in two years.
Lennon's widow, Yoko Ono, had called for his continued incarceration, saying she feared for the safety of herself and Lennon's two sons if Chapman was set free.
