Higher Questioning: Presidential considerations.

t was not that Barack Obama could not or would not go after John McCain. It was just that McCain towered over Obama on every issue of substance — especially when it came to guarding the security of this nation.

This was not a debate characterized by clever one liners or gaffs that helped or hurt a particularly candidate. It was a square-off between a young man of great charm and confidence in his ability to charm his way into any position he seeks and an old warrior, who has seen enough of the world and its problems to know what is required of the next president and is ready to assume command.

But when it came to which contender for the nation's highest office has a better grasp on the nation's primary security challenges, McCain won this round hands down, and without breaking a sweat, and without showing signs of weakening under stain.

The question his team needs to have asked in the days ahead is not "are you better off?" but "which of these two guys has better chance of instilling fear in the hearts of those who plan to do the United States ill?"

You do not have to fear what you know, but what you do no know.
Extract from debate:
McCain to Obama:
Now, you don't do that. You don't say that out loud. If you have to do things, you have to do things, and you work with the Pakistani government.

That is the guy that the terrorists will fear most.
Not someone who announces it on the TV what targets he is going to attack, when/how what date, what time etc..

Yes. And it's basic stuff.

Obama, thinks too much in the abstract. Unfortunately reality is not an abstraction.

Yes! Some very smart people consider this one of Obama's strengths . They admire someone who can see multiple ramifications and will take the time to analyze every iteration. They mock politicians who are decisive (as if they are NOT thinking of multiple iterations). Problem is, IMHO, these people are not guided by core values. Rather, they live in their heads and usually take a long time to get anything done. It is not unusual for the final product to be overly complicated and complex and unwieldy and expensive.

The term for it is analysis paralysis. 360-degree thinkers can also be decisive. But they must first know what they believe (values). It helps greatly to be a student of history.

Neither is truth an abstraction.

And about those claims of supporting vets and vet organization support from the recent debate:

And now this latest revelation:

I have traveled the world.
And in no country other that USA, you use the first name without permission.
Doing that is showing disrespect for the person.
Obama keep doing it, even if McCain keep calling him Senator Obama.
To many this is not important in this election, but it is important in International affairs.
And it is a important indicator of the personality, with no stature, no respect and shallow morale..

Yes. It was a subtle way to show disrespect.

That's what I was thinking. Sen. Obama went to school at an Ivy league school. He learned how to speak to an opponent in a debate. I think it was a calculated attempt to pull a man of experience down to his level. It was a subtle inference of equality in issues of substance and experience. To top it off, inexperienced young people who have no idea of proper manners (still got those caps stuck on Renee?) are whining because McCain did not return the manner of address, Saying that he was somehow insulting Obama. Maddening...

You are confusing the intellect education with the Moral education.
It just showed how shallow Obama's moral education is.
